Countless breweries are breaking onto the scene with their interesting concoctions and new takes on different types of brews. While a cold Budweiser will more or less get the job done, we like to mix it up and believe that you should to once in a while. To help, we put together a list of some of our favorite craft brews at or above 8% APV. Enjoy.
Sip of Sunshine (IPA) - 8% ABV / Beer Advocate Score: 100
Lawson's Finest Liquids have brewed up a winner in Sip of Sunshine, a lupulin-ladin India Pale Ale that's packed with a juicy tropical fruit character, bright floral aromas and delectable layers of hop flavor. Pour slowly into a glass and take a deep inhale to experience smells and reminders of a tropical vacation. Always store cold and enjoy fresh.
Regular Coffee (Cream Ale) - 12% ABV / BA Score: 90
Carton Brewing Company pays homage to New Jersey's version of a regular coffee: An acidic, bitter coffee flattened out by milk and two sugars. The Jersey brewers mixed a combination coffee beans and aromas with a high gravity cream ale to give this beer its unique Jersey-style regular coffee taste.
120 Minute IPA (American Double / Imperial IPA) - 15-20% ABV / BA Score: 89
Some consider Dogfish Head to be the godfather of the craft brew game. In a sense, those who claim that are right. Thst sentiment is also extended to their 120 minute IPA , which was one of the first of its kind and opened up so many doors for other companies to introduce their own takes to the beer drinking world. The Delaware brewery puts it time into preparing this one as they brew it to a colossal 45-degree plato, boil it for a full two hours while high-alpha American hops are mixed in. When finished boiling, the beer is dry-hopped daily in the fermenter for a month then aged for another month on top of whole-leaf hops.
Lambo Door (American Double IPA) - 8% ABV/ BA Score: n/a
Grimm Artisan Ales' unabashed hop-bomb delivers a surprisingly juicy hop deliciousness rather than the typical intensive bitterness. It is incredibly beautiful out of the bottle, displaying a nice orange color. The tastes and aroma of tangerine, citrus and lemon are immediately apparent.
Kentucky Breakfast Stout (American Double / Imperial Stout) - 11.2% ABV/ BA Score: 100
Founders has been consistent with their delivery of products. Each has their own unique flavor, aroma and pairings that make its fans come back for more. Their Kentucky Breakfast Stout features hints of coffee and vanilla with a slightly less subtle bourbon flavoring. This delicious beer is then aged in oak bourbon barrels for over a year.
